Bees create wonderful textures, structures and colours. I am often amazed at the range of colours in the pollen stores of honeybees, for example, or the blends of propolis hues from the different resins they collect. Here the honeybees have sealed and disinfected a piece of wood placed over a hole in their crownboard, the ceiling of their hive.

Mason bees also create beautifully coloured cells for their offspring, with soft muted tones that vary according the available earth and pollens.
